Welcome to Our Sailing Club
The Royal Windermere Yacht Club was founded in 1860 to promote sailing on Windermere.
The club sits in an idyllic position in Bowness Bay on the shores of England's largest Lake. It has a well designed comfortable clubhouse with a bar, lounge, dining room and changing facilities. Outside there is ample secure car parking and a large boat park where our Flying Fifteen and dinghy fleets can dry sail from our slipways and jetties.
The club welcomes both juniors and adults. Sailing is enjoyed by all ages.
Fleet racing takes place from April to October at weekends, and on Monday and Thursday evenings. We have excellent on the water facilities with a committee boat, bosun, and several escort RIBs to provide assistance to our members on the water. The club races its own restricted class keelboat, the Windermere 17ft Yacht, the first of which was built in 1904. About 30 are regularly sailed today.
There is also a large and active Flying Fifteen fleet and a keen dinghy fleet comprising GP14s, RS400s, RS100s, Lasers and Solos. Sailing abilities range from beginners to world champions. There is room for all to enjoy sailing on the lake.
The club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and runs popular courses with its own instructors and boats throughout the summer. The Youth Squad meets on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in school term time, and is open to members and non-members alike for a small fee. Many of our juniors have gone on to become champions.
Although the focus is on sailing there is a full and active social programme. We are fortunate to have an excellent steward and chef who will welcome you to enjoy a meal or a drink with friends.
If you would like to join us, please create an account to register your details, including any boat(s) and we will contact you shortly
